The Weight of the Waiting Room
The Weight of the Waiting Room
Sickness, pain and disease are a heavy weight to bear whether the illness is yours, a family member or friend. The burden in and of itself can truly be so heavy in fact, that the stress can add to the problem - especially when the malady lasts for a long time.
Whether you are waiting on a surgery; waiting for a diagnosis; waiting for a treatment; waiting for a cure; waiting for healing; waiting for relief or simply just waiting for the doctor to enter the exam room - that time of waiting can be unbearable, frustrating and stressful.
Scripture tells us the stories of the woman with an "issue of blood" who suffered 12 years, spending all her money going to doctors, not getting any better but in fact getting worse; and the woman with the spirit of infirmity for 18 years; or the man who had been immobilized from his infirmity 38 years and the 40 year old man who had been impotent in his legs and had never walked since birth.
Yes, they struggled and suffered for many, many years. However, those years of struggle were prior to the knowledge of Jesus and His miracle working presence in their lives. No matter how long they spent in their pain, their freedom from it came instantly; suddenly and in that self-same hour, the moment they believed and encountered the living Jesus.
And still others sought out the Lord for friends and loved ones: like the Centurion Soldier for his servant; the Canaanite woman for her daughter; the head of the synagogue for his daughter and a simple father on behalf of his son who had been suffering with a spirit since the boy was a child.
"Only Believe" Jesus told Jairus when they told him his daughter had already died. "Your faith has made you whole," is what Jesus told the woman with the issue of blood, just before going with Jairus to his house to raise up the young girl from death.
While sitting in the physical waiting room to see a doctor or hear how a loved one is coming through surgery, you could read a magazine, or you can believe 1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed."
While pacing in the emotional waiting room of unsurely over a diagnosis or treatment, you could worry and fret over the outcome, or you can trust in Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God"
Or, while spiritually moping around in the waiting room of grief or despair, you could give up and succumb to the pain or you could stand in faith over James 5:15 "And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."
No matter what the weight of your waiting is you will always be comforted when you wait on the Lord as in Psalm 27:14 "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."
